FAQ

"The vestige group is committed to working collaboratively with theatre artists to
create new and controversial works that inspire conversation and create awareness."

Hey, it's the F.A.Q's!

(Thank heavens, I am totally lost here.)

Who are you people, and why are you here on this earth?

As a group, we are dedicated, if somewhat insane, individuals obsessed with bringing the theatre we want to the Austin area. As individuals, you can get our details on the board page. Some of us are grads, some of us are students, but all of us are stuck on the crazy idea that theatre isn't just for entertainment.
It can be a mirror, making the audience re-examine what they see in themselves. It can be a blackboard, teaching an audience something they didn't know. It can be a mouthpiece, giving voices to the voiceless. But it can be entertaining; too, otherwise, why bother?

What's in a name? Yours specifically, I mean.

The word "vestige" as defined by Merriam Webster Online is: "a trace, mark, or visible sign left by something (as an ancient city or a condition or practice) vanished or lost." Theatre is, by its nature, ephemeral, temporary, an event experienced and left when the house lights go up. But it doesn't have to be. We want there to be something that follows an audience home after the final bows. A memory, an emotion, or something learned. Something the audience will remember after they go home, for days, weeks, or even the rest of their lives. A Vestige.

What sort of shows do you do?

Well, basically anything that goes with that lovely mission statement above. Here's what's up right now. Our hearts aren't set on only doing full productions, one-acts, dramas, or comedies, although we do prefer more modern works. We are also looking to develop new works by local playwrights, so if you're interested in submitting something or are looking for a partner in crime, er, production, contact us at thevestigegroup@hotmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

How often do you guys do this stuff, what's your season like?

We're still trying to figure that one out ourselves. As of now, we're looking at a three-show season per year. More or less depending on the types of productions we're doing. Also, show runs are entirely dependant on the theater spaces we're using- which might not always be theaters. Which reminds me...

Where are you guys?

We don't have a permanent home yet. We are performing our shows wherever we can, and some shows just beg to be produced outside traditional performance arenas. Do you know someone who might be interested in hosting us? Contact us at thevestigegroup@hotmail.com, we'd love to hear from you! But keep in mind the next question...

How are you funded?

Short answer- we're not. We're a nonprofit organization sponsored by the Austin Circle of Theaters and exist solely on donations, fundraisers, and the blood, sweat and tears of our members. If you want a souvenir visit our store: The Vestige Group Store. If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation, please e-mail us.

Oh, my goodness! I so wanna help! But I have no money, how do I do that?

Contact us. It's that easy. We'd love to hear from you, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. We always need manpower for our show runs, folks to help us wrangle and arrange and be a part of everything from fundraisers to casts. Also- sign up for the newsletter- we don't sell or give out any e-mails to third parties, the only mail you get from us will be from us. Announcements, upcoming shows, auditions, that kind of stuff. Honest.
